My Book

To try to clear out the backlog of DV tapes on my desk from my daughter’s concert I had to acquire some hard drive space. I decided to go big and ended buying a WD My Book, 500GB external hard drive. According to their calculations, I have about My Book 38 hours of DV space, this should be enough. What was a deciding factor for choosing this one was that it supports both USB2.0 and FireWire 400. Also, the backup software and drivers are available for the Mac as well as Windows, another big plus. The drive is fast, low noise and has one cool geekish feature. Upon installing the drivers, the inner blue circle in front of the drive serves as an indicator as used disk space!

I ran out of hard drive space on my Mac Mini for the same reasons (well, video and audio, not only DV files) and I choose the Maxtor OneTouch which I’m pleased with if it wouldn’t be for the anoying flashing light on the front of the device. How do you like the My Book?

I like it a lot enough to make a blog entry about it ;) I got no complaints at all.
