On the weekend, I changed the oil in the SV, put the battery back in and fired my baby up. Ooooh I missed that lovely purr. I also washed it. Didn’t ride, I think there’s still to much sand and gravel for my taste on the roads. I prefer to play it safe, resist a few more weeks for a few Spring rains to clean the roads than risk a spill.

In the Fall, I had dumbly applied WD-40 to the rotors to prevent them from rusting (I know, bad idea, but what’s done is done). I tried removing the stuff with Hertel and dish soap but they still felt a bit oily. Not a good thing when you’re trying to brake. So I bought some Gunk Brake Cleaner yesterday to remove the oily residue. Let’s hope it’ll be okay but I’ll do that again.

I also took the time to clean my chain and lube it again. So I brought my kerosene and a pan, and tried to clean it off. I lubricated my chain with Maxima Gold (the one that smell like Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion). Man this is pretty tough to remove after a few months of inactivity and in not too hot weather. I’ll have to consider alternative lubricants. So I’m all ready for Spring, It’s supposed to rain Friday and Saturday so this will help clean the roads. My riding is about to begin. I also got another proof of that yesterday, my license plate bill. :)

Roads are really clear here in NB. I rode to work yesterday. Did the oil and filter on Monday. I don’t think I have changed the oil yet where I didn’t drop the filter in the pan of used oil. grrr.
